I wanted to start this gallery off with images from one of the most incredible hikes we've ever done. The starting point was at Moraine Lake, perhaps the most popular and overcrowded place in all of Banff National Park. That has necessitated a shuttle system that prevents anytime passage to the lake and its surrounding trailheads. Although it's possible to ride a bike about 10 miles to the lake from the tiny village of Lake Louise, we didn't have bikes with us, and it would've been impractical to do so and get where we wanted by sunrise anyway. My attempt to secure shuttle bus passes from Parks Canada for our chosen day were fruitless, as the 60% of shuttle tickets that are sold 48 hours in advance (vs. 40% secured online months in advance) disappeared as soon as the park's website went live. Our only other option was to pay the exorbitant cost for seats on a private shuttle service that contracts with Parks Canada, which we did, paying over $200 instead of the $19 it would have cost, had I been able to get tickets through the park's site. I really wanted to be up in Larch Valley and Valley of the Ten Peaks for sunrise, so I chose a bus that left at 4:30am. (story continues with next photo...) Photo © copyright by Todd Caudle.
