How To Buy Fine Art Photographs

Are you looking for that perfect piece (or pieces) of photographic art for a special room in your home? Do you want to make a visual impact statement at your office? Look no further! On my site you can choose from a wide variety of fine art photographs that I’ve made all over the world – horizontal, vertical, panorama, every mood, every season, every color palette. As a longtime Coloradan, images of my home state make up much of my portfolio, but I have traveled extensively across the western and southwest United States, and I have more recently been adding bucket list destinations like Nepal, Patagonia, Switzerland and the Canadian Rockies to my photographic inventory. My collection is ever-expanding, so new photos and locations will continually be added. Let my photographs be your window to the natural world with fine art prints artfully crafted for your space.

You can order prints directly from the galleries on this site, and your purchase price includes free shipping to anywhere in the Lower 48 states. I will start the production process for your print, usually the day it’s ordered, and the professional labs I utilize will drop-ship your print directly to the address of your choice.

So – you’ve browsed my galleries and found the perfect photo (or photos) to make into a fine art print for your home or office. It could be a cherished memory of somewhere you’ve been; a photo depicting your favorite season; a color palette that matches your space; or maybe the image just hits you right in the feels. What next? Here are the steps to fine-tune your choice, with a detailed explanation of each.

• The Size
• The Mock-Up
• The Presentation Style

THE SIZE

With fine art prints, bigger is usually (but not always) better. You don’t want to order a print and have it ending up looking like the size of a postage stamp on your wall instead of an impactful piece of art. Below are demonstrations of different print sizes and how they might look in a typical home setting.

What size looks best? I'd go with either the 40x60 or 48x72. I wouldn't want to go too small
on a wall like this, but the 60x90 is too dominant, no need to go that large.

I would be comfortable with any of these sizes in this room,
but I lean towards either the 20x50 or the 24x60 as being
in that Goldilocks zone of being not too big, and not too small.

THE MOCK-UP

Luckily there’s an easy way to pick the perfect size for your space, and that’s with a custom mock-up. All you need to do is take a cell phone picture of the space where the fine art print will be displayed, and I can create a mock-up of what the photo will look like at different sizes. Here are a few tips to improve the accuracy of the mock-up:

• Photograph the space straight-on if possible

• Try to make the photo in even lighting, without strong shadows or areas of sunlight hitting the wall

• Send dimensions along with your photo. Width and height are best, but if you can only send one, I can usually extrapolate the other. If for some reason you can’t send either, send the measurements of an object in the photo, such as a headboard on a bed, or the width of a couch or dresser.

With this info I can create your mock-up, as I did for these clients below:

Is 40x60 large enough for this wall? Not likely. The 48x72 looks much better!
A pair of 36x54-inch prints finishes off this family room very nicely!
Some mock-ups are more difficult than others.
No worries – I'm up for the challenge!

THE PRESENTATION STYLE

You will find descriptions of each presentation style underneath each photo in all the galleries, but I am including that info (and a little bit more) on this page as a kind of one-stop roundup of everything you need to know regarding how to select fine art prints for your space.

I have narrowed down the types of print styles I offer to only those that look the best with my type of photographs. All styles are archival quality and will retain their color and vibrancy for decades to come. Each style has inherent advantages, and depending on your space, some might have a slight disadvantage that I will explain below.

ARTISAN GLOSSY METAL PRINT
Metal prints offer a beautiful, glossy, sleek option for brightening your wall spaces. They are created by a process called dye-sublimation, whereby dyes are converted to gas and infused into a thin sheet of aluminum through the combined forces of heat and pressure, creating a near-permanent, water-resistant , archival print that can literally be displayed in a wide variety of settings and suffer no ill consequences. Metal prints are lightweight and scratch-resistant, and have a superior glossy finish that eliminates any barrier to letting the colors, sharpness and vibrancy of an image shine through. Like our museum-grade acrylic prints, they arrive ready to hang with an inset floater frame that gives the piece even more dimensionality. The archival nature of dye-sub prints means your print will retain its color for 100 years or more. The color and detail and durability of dye-sub metal prints offer a beautiful, contemporary way to display fine art in your home or office – or your humidity-prone secret getaway deep in the Amazon rainforest!
